Latest news and trends about tech in China
JD.com has clarified that it will not directly engage in vehicle manufacturing amid reports of its entry into the auto sector. The e-commerce giant announced that its co-developed car, created in partnership with GAC Group and CATL, will debut on November 9 and be sold exclusively on JD.com. JD.com said it will focus on consumer insights and omnichannel services, leveraging data from millions of annual car-related searches to better understand user demand. The company is also integrating thousands of auto service shops and partner outlets to form a complete “purchase–maintenance–trade-in” ecosystem. Under the partnership, GAC will oversee R&D and production, while CATL will provide its EVOGO battery swap technology. The three companies aim to explore a “platform-driven product co-creation” model. [TechNode reporting]
