Dongfeng Motor (HKG: 0489, OTCMKTS: DNFGF) announced today at Huawei’s Qiankun ecosystem conference that the new automotive brand jointly developed by both parties is named Yijing (奕境 in Chinese).
This marks the first new automotive brand created through collaboration between a Chinese state-owned automaker and a tech giant, said Wang Junjun, general manager of Dongfeng eπ Automobile Technology.
Yijing’s first model will debut at the next Beijing auto show in April 2026, with the brand launching one new model annually, he said.
Yijing’s official Weibo account was activated following the announcement, revealing its operational entity as the sales company of Dongfeng eπ.
The new brand was previously referred to as the “DH Project.” On October 25, Huawei and Dongfeng’s DH Project team held a meeting in Wuhan — Dongfeng’s headquarters city — to advance the integration of Huawei’s latest technologies into the project’s products, according to an October 26 statement.
In January this year, Dongfeng and Huawei signed a strategic cooperation agreement for intelligent vehicles in Shenzhen, formally launching the project, according to Dongfeng’s statement.
In May, the two parties upgraded their strategic cooperation in Wuhan, expanding the scope to include Huawei’s Qiankun smart driving and HarmonySpace cockpit technologies.
In September, their joint laboratory was inaugurated, focusing on technologies including in-vehicle software and AI applications.
Additionally, GAC Group (HKG: 2238) and Huawei’s jointly developed new brand Qijing announced at today’s Huawei event that its first model will also debut at the Beijing auto show in April 2026.
The Qijing brand was officially launched on September 19, targeting the premium electric vehicle (EV) market.
On September 25, Qijing appointed Liu Jiaming, a veteran with over 25 years of automotive industry experience, as CEO to oversee strategy, product planning, and market expansion.
Liu announced at today’s Huawei event that the brand will launch two new models by mid-2026.
Currently, Huawei’s deepest involvement in automotive partnerships lies within the HIMA (Harmony Intelligent Mobility Alliance) initiative, which includes five brands: Seres Group’s Aito, Chery‘s (HKG: 9973) Luxeed, Stelato from Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC Group), Maextro from Anhui Jianghuai Automobile Group Corp (JAC), and Shangjie from SAIC.
Based on the naming of Qijing and Yijing, along with disclosed information, Huawei’s involvement in this new collaboration model may be less extensive than in the HIMA initiative.
