Upcoming Car Launches in December: New Seltos, e Vitara, and Tata’s New Petrol SUVs – CarWale
Jay Shah
The year may be winding down, but December is shaping up to be an action-packed month for new car launches. From long-awaited EVs to new petrol powertrains, and a popular SUV getting a fresh makeover, there’s plenty to look forward to. Here’s a look at all models arriving before 2025 comes to a close.
Maruti Suzuki will kick off the month with the price reveal of its first-ever electric SUV, the e-Vitara, on 2 December. Initially planned for earlier this year, the launch will now finally take place, with the model rolling out of the brand’s Gujarat plant. Globally, the e Vitara is offered with 49kWh and 69kWh battery packs, delivering a claimed driving range of up to 500km. We have already driven the international-spec model in the UK, and the India-spec version will make its debut next week.
Alongside the recently launched Sierra, Tata Motors will introduce its new 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol engine in the Harrier and the Safari on 9 December. The engine was first showcased at the 2023 Auto Expo, and will now finally debut across three Tata models. Expect it to be paired with a six-speed torque converter automatic, similar to the Sierra. Variants and pricing will be revealed on the launch date, with the new engine expected to widen the appeal of both SUVs.
The popular Kia Seltos is set for a refresh, and it will arrive on 10 December. Spy shots suggest significant cosmetic updates, including new front and rear styling, revised alloy wheels, and a possible dashboard redesign. The existing petrol and diesel engines are likely to continue unchanged, though rumours hint at the possibility of a hybrid powertrain making its way into the lineup. With this update, Kia aims to keep the Seltos competitive in the ever-evolving mid-size SUV segment.
Mini India will announce prices of the Cooper Convertible later this month. Bookings are already open, and the big highlight is its electrically operated fabric roof, which can open or close in 18 seconds at speeds of up to 30kmph. Powering the Convertible is the same 201bhp, 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine as the hard-top model, paired with a seven-speed DCT. Expect the Convertible to sit Rs. 1-1.5 lakh higher than the standard version when prices are revealed.
