The NEV category, which includes battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs), saw BYD take first place with total passenger car sales of 2,412 units. In 2024, its first full year on the Hungarian market, the brand ranked fourth in the segment.
BYD’s momentum strengthened toward the end of the year. Strong December sales lifted the company to sixth place in Hungary’s overall passenger car market, giving it a 4.35% market share and signaling growing acceptance beyond electrified vehicle segments.
The company also finished first in the BEV passenger car and light commercial vehicle (LCV) market. Combined sales of fully electric BYD passenger cars and the BYD ETP3 light commercial vehicle reached 1,858 units.
BYD’s expanding model range was reflected in the list of Hungary’s 10 most popular BEV models, where four BYD vehicles were represented. The BYD Atto 3 led the ranking with 333 registrations, narrowly ahead of the BYD Sealion 7 with 332 units.
The BYD Seal sedan followed with 294 units, while the BYD Dolphin Surf, introduced in May, entered the top 10 with 252 registrations. The Dolphin Surf also ranked first in the B-segment electric car category.
At the global level, BYD reported earlier this month that it was the world’s top-selling brand in the NEV segment in 2025 and the leading global brand in BEV passenger cars. The Hungarian results mirror that trend, with BYD rising to the top of the segments in which it operates less than two years after entering the local market.
BYD’s local network has expanded significantly since the brand made its debut in Hungary, and now includes 12 sales locations and 7 service centers nationwide, with two additional countryside sales points currently under development.
