Increase in number of new car registrations in Donegal last year – Donegal Daily
There was an almost ten per cent increase in the number of cars registered for the first time in Donegal last year.
According to the Central Statistics Office (CSO), 6,251 cars were registered for the first time in 2025, up 8.8% on the previous year. In Donegal in 2024, 5,745 cars were registered for the first time. The figures are for both new and imported cars.
Nationally, there was a 36% increase (23,398 vs 17,191) in the number of new private electric cars licensed for the first time. However, the number of petrol vehicles licensed for the first time saw a 14% decrease. This means the share of electric vehicles (EVs) among new private cars in 2025 was 19% compared with 15% in 2024.
