Skoda Kushaq Facelift

The Skoda Kushaq was once one of the most desirable SUVs in the market. But Skoda has forgotten about it ever since its launch. Its competition has gotten intense, and the Kushaq has fallen lightyears behind the likes of the Sierra, Seltos and the Creta. Skoda has now decided to give it the much-needed facelift, and this revised version will be showcased on the 19th of January.
From the test mules of the facelifted version, the design changes were minimal. This is necessarily a negative since the Kushaq has always been a good-looking SUV and has aged gracefully since launch. Nevertheless, minor revisions to the grille, headlights, taillights, and bumpers are expected, along with new alloy wheel designs and colour options.
While the Kushaq looks fresh as ever on the outside, it has aged on the inside. The outgoing model misses out on a panoramic sunroof, a 360-degree camera and Level 2 ADAS. Skoda plans to add these with the facelifted version. The current list includes a 10-inch instrument cluster, powered and ventilated front seats, and automatic climate control and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. We also expect a bigger infotainment screen.
No changes are updated under the hood, and the same 1.0-litre TSI (114bhp & 178Nm) and 1.5-litre TSI (148bhp & 253Nm) will be offered. The gearbox options will include the popular DSG gearbox, a 6-speed AT and a 6-speed manual. Interestingly, Skoda has stopped offering a manual gearbox with the 1.5-litre engine, and it remains to be seen whether it will do the same with the Kushaq facelift.
Furthermore, we expect a price hike of about Rs 1 lakh, over the current price range of Rs 12.62 lakh- Rs 21.89 lakh (on-road, Mumbai).

Toyota Urban Cruiser EV

This is another addition to Toyota’s long list of rebadged Maruti Suzuki cars. The Urban Cruiser EV, Toyota’s first-ever electric vehicle in India, shares its underpinnings with the Maruti Suzuki E-Vitara. Toyota are set to launch it on 20th January.
Since the model is already on sale in global markets, we have a thorough idea of how it may look. It looks identical to the E-Vitara thanks to the black cladding, connected taillights, crossover stance, and high window sills. The features that set this car apart are the revised front-end and Toyota badging.
On the inside, you get a floating centre console and a dual-screen cockpit, ventilated front seats, Level-2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, a 10-way power driver’s seat, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, etc. The build quality is expected to be top-notch, with an abundance of soft-touch materials throughout the cabin.
2 battery options are expected – a 49 kWh and a 61 kWh. The smaller battery pack will be offered with a 144 bhp motor, and the 61 kWh pack will be available with a 174 bhp motor. Moreover, the claimed range of the bigger battery pack is 543 km. The pricing is expected to start at Rs 19-20 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai). Pricing will determine how well the Urban Cruiser EV fares in the competitive electric vehicle segment.

Nissan Gravite

The list of rebadged cars doesn’t stop with the Urban Cruiser. Nissan is also set to reveal the rebadged version of Renault Triber, the Gravite, on 21st January. Nissan has not updated their lineup since the launch of the X-Trail, and this would be a much-needed introduction. The Gravite has been teased multiple times, and the 21st will be the unveiling date.
The Gravite will be a sub-4m 7-seater MPV. The design will be such that the practicality is maximised. To set it apart from the Triber, it is expected to get a revised grille, tweaked headlights and tailights, along with newer alloy wheel designs. It will adopt the same feature list as the Triber. This list includes a wireless charger, a 7-inch instrument cluster, an 8-inch infotainment screen, cruise control, front parking sensors, a rear parking camera, and wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The powertrain will be the same, with a 1.0-litre petrol engine mated to either a 5-speed MT or an AMT. Nissan is also expected to provide a dealer-fitted CNG alternative. The pricing will be slightly higher than the Triber’s. Speculation suggests that it will be priced between Rs 7-11 Lakh (on-road, Mumbai).
