Electric cars are finally starting to feel real for everyday buyers in India. Not just as expensive tech showcases, but as practical options you can actually consider. Over the next couple of years, brands like Maruti Suzuki, Mahindra, Tata, Hyundai, Kia and Honda are bringing in new EVs across different segments – compact SUVs, family cars and even larger seven-seaters. These upcoming models promise better range, improved charging support and features that we’re already familiar with in petrol and diesel cars.

So if you’ve been waiting for the right time to go electric, the next few years are going to be very interesting.

Here is a list of the top upcoming electric cars in India:

Maruti Suzuki e Vitara will be the company’s first electric SUV in India. It is scheduled to launch in December this year. Production has already begun at Maruti’s Gujarat facility. The e Vitara will come with two battery pack options, 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The driving range is expected to be around 500 kilometres on a single charge.

Mahindra will introduce the XEV 7e in early 2026. The electric version of the popular XUV700 will be India’s first mass-market seven-seater electric SUV. It will be based on the INGLO platform and will share its battery options with the BE 6 and XEV 9e. The interior layout will be similar to the XEV 9e, featuring a wide triple-screen setup on the dashboard.

Mahindra will also launch the BE Rall-E next year, which will be a rugged, off-road-focused electric SUV. It is based on the BE 6 but will come with off-road styled bumpers, bigger tyres and a tougher exterior look. It is expected to offer all-wheel-drive capability with two electric motors.

Kia Syros EV is expected to go on sale in early 2026. The Syros electric version has already been spotted testing on Indian roads. The overall styling will remain similar to the standard Syros, but it will include EV-specific touches like new alloy wheels and special badging. The model is likely to offer two battery packs and a driving range of around 400 kilometres. It will become Kia’s second mass-market EV after the Carens Clavis EV.

Tata Sierra EV is set to be the next major electric launch from Tata Motors. It is expected to arrive in January 2026. While detailed specifications are yet to be confirmed, the Sierra EV may share its battery and motor setup with the upcoming Harrier EV. The Sierra EV will offer a premium cabin experience with Tata’s latest technology.

Tata Motors is also preparing an all-new EV family under the Avinya brand. These models will be based on Tata’s Gen-3 skateboard electric platform. The Avinya range is planned for launch in 2027. Up to five models may be introduced, including the Avinya X coupe-crossover, which was shown as a concept at the 2025 Auto Expo.

Hyundai is developing a new compact electric SUV for India, planned for launch in 2027. It will be based on the Inster EV platform used in international markets. This model will be built on the E-GMP (K) electric architecture. It will rival compact EVs like the Tata Punch EV. The new Hyundai EV is expected to offer features like Level 2 ADAS and over-the-air updates. Hyundai is also considering electric versions of the Grand i10 Nios and Venue for India in the future.

Honda has confirmed a new electric SUV under the 0 Series for India. It will be positioned in the premium electric segment and is expected to come with an 80 kWh to 100 kWh battery pack. This model will be imported to India and will go on sale next year. Honda also revealed the 0 Alpha concept, which will be a more affordable model in the 0 Series lineup. The 0 Alpha will be launched in 2027 and will be manufactured locally. It is expected to come with a 65 kWh to 75 kWh battery pack and will compete with the Maruti e Vitara, Mahindra BE 6 and Hyundai Creta EV.
