2026 Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) Jury Round Kicks Off – CarWale

The evaluation process for the 2026 Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) awards has officially begun, with jury members coming together to assess the most significant new car launches of the year. As always, the ICOTY awards aim to recognise cars that stand out for their value, performance, efficiency, and relevance to the Indian market.
This year’s jury round brings together a diverse mix of internal combustion, hybrid and fully electric vehicles, reflecting the rapidly evolving preferences of Indian car buyers.
ICOTY 2026 Final Shortlist
The main ICOTY category sees a strong mix of mass-market bestsellers and EVs. The shortlisted cars are Hyundai Creta Electric, Hyundai Venue, Kia Carens Clavis EV, Kia Syros, Mahindra XEV 9E, Maruti Suzuki Victoris, Skoda Kylaq and the Tata Harrier EV.
Premium Car of the Year Shortlist
The Premium Car category continues to grow in importance as luxury car sales rise steadily in India. The shortlisted models include the BMW iX1 LWB, BMW X3, Mercedes-Benz G-Class, MG Cyberster, Skoda Kodiaq, Skoda Octavia RS, Toyota Camry and Volkswagen Golf GTI
Green Car of the Year Shortlist
With electrification gaining momentum, the Green Car category once again features a strong line-up of EVs. The cars in this category include the BMW iX1 LWB, BYD Sealion 7, Hyundai Creta Electric, Kia Carens Clavis EV, MG Cyberster, Mahindra XEV 9E, Tata Harrier EV and the Tesla Model Y.
How does the voting system work?
As for how the voting works, every jury member has 25 points to award. The maximum a jury member can give a car is 10 points. And the jury member must award points to at least five cars. Also, the top two cars cannot be awarded the same points. That means every jury member signals his or her clear winner.
