Just like the Tata Sierra is making a big comeback, Honda CR-V is also set to return to the Indian market. The company will bring the SUV as a CBU (Completely Built-Up) import. The Honda CR-V India launch will feature an all-new model with hybrid technology, a new lightweight platform, and updated interiors. This move will help Honda strengthen its SUV lineup and rebuild its premium image in India.

Honda CR-V India discontinued back in 2020 due to multiple reasons. The company had to close its Greater Noida plant, where the model was assembled. Shifting production to the Tapukara plant in Rajasthan was not practical because of high costs. Moreover, the CR-V also saw weak demand as buyers preferred diesel SUVs, while the CR-V came only with a petrol engine.
The upcoming CR-V will be based on a new mid-size platform developed in Japan. This new structure will make the SUV lighter and more efficient. Powering it will be a 2.0-litre petrol-hybrid engine paired with new traction and generator motors. The hybrid system promises better performance and improved fuel efficiency.
Honda will also introduce an electric all-wheel-drive system, replacing the older mechanical setup. This new feature will not only enhance grip but also increase interior space and comfort.
Interior and Features
The next-gen CR-V will feature a much larger 15-inch touchscreen infotainment system, upgraded from the previous 9-inch unit. It may also get a steering column-mounted gear shifter, freeing up more space in the center console. The cabin is expected to look cleaner, more modern, and more premium than before.
If you’re wondering is Honda CR-V coming to India, the answer is yes. The new SUV is expected to debut globally around 2027, with India likely to get it the same year. However, some sources are suggesting that the new CR-V could arrive in india by 2026. Since it will be a CBU import, the Honda CR-V India price will be higher, but the company is expected to keep it competitive this time.
The CR-V will take on rivals like the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron, and Hyundai Tucson.
Bringing back the CR-V is part of Honda’s strategy to expand its SUV lineup in India. The model will sit above the Honda Elevate and help the company reconnect with premium SUV buyers. Honda is also working on more SUVs and a future electric vehicle for the Indian market.
