Honda to launch 10 Cars In India By 2030 – CarWale

Honda has announced that it will launch 10 cars in India by 2030 and added that seven of this 10 would be SUVs, underscoring the importance of the body style to their future plans. One of the confirmed models is the production-ready version of the 0 Alpha EV that was showcased recently at the Japan Mobility Show. This replaces the Elevate-based EV that was due in 2027 and will be produced in India, not just for the local market but also for exports.
The automaker has said that one of the backbones of this 0 Alpha SUV will be that the batteries will be sourced from Indonesia rather than China and will be assembled in India with the bigger aim of controlling costs. There is no clarity if these will be NMC or LFP batteries, but we expect Honda to fall on the side of reliability rather than outright range.
Over and above the 0 Alpha SUV, Honda will also bring in the full-size 0 EV SUV as a CBU for the Indian market. The move points at a halo electric model that would create ambition for the smaller SUV—think of it as a trickle-down effect, a tactic commonly used by many manufacturers.
Among the 10 cars, its current crop of four vehicles will also get updates, so this means a facelift for the City, City e:HEV, Amaze, and the Elevate. The last of this lot will play a bigger role in Honda’s plans as there will be an Elevate Hybrid and most likely a sub-compact version of the SUV to bring Honda back in the sub-4 SUV game. It has not had a presence here since the WR-V was discontinued a few years ago, and with great volume potential in this price segment, especially from tier-2, 3, and 4 cities, it’s a game Honda will not want to miss.
Another two potential models that we see in Honda’s future offering are the BR-V and CR-V. The former is expected to be positioned as a rival to the Maruti Ertiga, Maruti XL6, Toyota Rumion, Kia Carens, Kia Carens Clavis, and future MPV from Hyundai. In addition to private buyers, this model has major potential in India’s massive fleet market, where CNG is the king.
The final potential model is expected to be the latest-generation CR-V SUV. It is likely to be priced around the Rs 40-45 lakh price range and will target cars like the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tiguan/Tayron, but also entry-level models from the German manufacturers. If launched here, we expect it to get petrol and hybrid power.
