HONDA’S INDIA REVIVAL PLAN! Brand to Unleash 10 NEW CARS by 2030, Including 7 SUVs and an Indian-Made 500 KM Range EV! – Pune Mirror

Honda has unveiled an ambitious, make-or-break strategy to reclaim market share in India, confirming plans to introduce a substantial pipeline of 10 all-new models by 2030. A staggering seven of these will be SUVs, marking a renewed focus on the segment that has long eluded the Japanese automaker.
The dramatic expansion plan was outlined by Toshihiro Mibe, Director, President, and Representative Executive Officer of Honda Motor Co. Mibe candidly acknowledged the need to “push more effort into the Indian market than ever before,” recognizing India’s critical strategic importance amid rising competition from Chinese manufacturers.
The centrepiece of this expansion is the Honda 0 (Zero) Series Alpha EV, a midsize electric SUV that will serve as the cornerstone of Honda’s electrification strategy in India. Key details include:
While the 0 Alpha will be a clean-sheet model built on a dedicated EV platform, Honda is not abandoning internal combustion engines (ICE). The 10-model plan includes a wide range of products, such as new compact SUVs (to re-enter the lucrative sub-4 metre segment), several hybrids (including a possible Elevate hybrid), and updates to current models like the Amaze, City, and Elevate.
This multi-pronged approach confirms Honda’s strategy is not to bet exclusively on pure battery EVs but to invest across ICE, hybrid, and electric fronts. Honda has established a dedicated project team focused entirely on the Indian market, aiming to increase investment and localization to cut costs and become competitive in the price-sensitive market, where its current market share remains below 5%.
