One of Mahindra’s biggest stars, the XUV700, is all set to go through a major facelift, and this time around, it is also getting renamed to the XUV 7XO. While launch details remain unconfirmed, what we know is that Mahindra will be unveiling it on January 5, 2026. While still retaining the same powertrains underneath, the XUV 7XO will get comprehensive styling, interior and feature upgrades, some of which are expected to be borrowed from its all-electric sibling, the XEV 9S.
Overview
While we do not know much about the design of the XUV 7XO till now, Mahindra has given us a look at a few styling revisions that it has incorporated. At the front, it is likely to resemble the current XUV700, albeit with a new grille, updated headlamp design and new bumpers. Towards the side, it could see some snazzier 19-inch alloy wheels replacing the 18-inch units seen on the current car. That said, it will likely maintain the same silhouette, which has grown to be one of the signature design elements of the XUV700.
Exterior
At the rear as well, changes are expected to be limited to a reworked taillamp cluster with a honeycomb LED pattern and black casing, along with a redesigned bumper as seen in the XEV 9S. Overall, it will be a thorough refresh, but will remain unmistakable for an XUV. You can also checkout the XUV 7XO in spyshots here.
Exterior
Mahindra has not revealed any details of the interior yet, although the XUV 7XO is expected to adopt a new dashboard layout with a triple-screen layout from the XEV 9S and XEV 9e. It could also get a new steering wheel, along with revised upholstery and colour scheme.
The XUV 7XO is expected to continue with 5 seats in the lower variants, while the top variants could be offered as 7-seaters only, just like in the XUV700. However, expect functional upgrades such as sliding second row seats and optional ottoman seats.
Features
Mahindra is likely to equip the XUV 7XO with a long list of features, including triple 12.3-inch screens for the digital instrument cluster, touchscreen infotainment system and a passenger entertainment display, ventilated front and rear seats, panoramic sunroof, a 16-speaker Harman Kardon sound system with Dolby Atmos, multiple wireless chargers, dual-zone climate control, AR-based heads-up display and wireless Android Auto/Apple CarPlay.
Going by its track record, Mahindra is not someone to compromise on safety, and the XUV 7XO is likely to continue with tradition with safety features such as 7 airbags, 360 degree camera, front and rear parking sensors, hill hold assist (HHA), electronic parking brake (EPB) with auto hold, electronic stability control (ESC), tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS) and traction control (TC) expected to be part of its safety suite.
We can also expect an upgraded version of the Level 2 ADAS suite from the XUV700, with the addition of features such as rear cross traffic alert, highway steering assist and traffic sign recognition in addition to existing features such as adaptive cruise control (ACC), lane keep assist (LKA), auto emergency braking (AEB), forward collision warning (FCW) and high beam assist (HBA).
Given that the XUV700 previously scored an impressive 5-star safety rating in the Global NCAP crash tests, the facelifted XUV 7XO is also expected to have a good safety rating and could be tested for Bharat NCAP.
While Mahindra has not revealed the boot space figures, expect it to be similar to the XUV700 which also gets a 50:50 split-folding third row for added flexibility.
The Mahindra XUV 7XO is expected to continue with the same powertrains as the XUV700, which include 2-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines, both of which come paired to 6-speed manual or 6-speed automatic transmissions. The turbo-petrol develops a performance figure of 200 PS and 380 Nm, while on the other hand, the diesel is available with multiple tunes based on the variant, producing up to 185 PS and 450 Nm.
Mahindra also offers an optional all-wheel drive setup with the diesel powertrain, which is likely to continue in the XUV 7XO.
Following details are tentative and subject to change.
