New MG Hector to Remain Petrol-only for Now, Diesel to Arrive Next Year – CarWale

MG Motor India has launched the Hector facelift, but buyers looking for a diesel option will have to wait a little longer. At launch, the updated Hector is available only with a petrol powertrain, while MG has confirmed that the diesel version will be introduced in 2026.
The initial petrol-only strategy sees the MG Hector continue with its existing 1.5-litre turbocharged motor. This unit produces 143bhp/250Nm, and is offered with both manual and CVT automatic systems. MG has not officially detailed the reason behind delaying the diesel launch, although rising diesel vehicle costs due to stricter emission norms, coupled with increasing customer preference for petrol and automatic variants in urban markets, may have influenced the decision. That said, diesel power remains an important consideration for large SUV buyers in India, especially those with high usage.
Prices for the petrol-powered Hector start at Rs. 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom). MG is offering it in both five- and seven-seat configurations, meaning the Hector competes with a range of vehicles including the Hyundai Creta, Hyundai Alcazar, Kia Seltos, Kia Carens Clavis, and the upcoming Mahindra XUV 7XO.
