The Renault Clio was France’s best-selling new car in 2025, finishing well ahead of its closest rivals.

The Renault Clio was France’s best-selling new car in 2025, widening its lead over rivals by an unusually large margin.
A total of 101,892 Clios were sold during the year, far ahead of its closest competitor, the Peugeot 208, which recorded 73,092 sales.
The Dacia Sandero ranked third.
The result marks a sharp increase in the Clio’s dominance compared with 2024, when the Peugeot 208 finished a close second.
Strong demand came despite the Clio’s fifth-generation model being due for replacement in 2026.
Industry analysts suggest the Clio’s success reflects its competitive pricing, broad range of engines — including hybrid, petrol, diesel and LPG — and strong reputation for build quality.
Renault has also benefited from reputational issues affecting rival brands, particularly following engine-related recalls at Peugeot and Citroën.
France has formally applied for UNESCO World Heritage status for the Pic du Midi and its historic high-mountain observatory in the Pyrenees.
