Tata Harrier and Safari Petrol to Launch in India Tomorrow – CarWale

Tata Motors is bringing a petrol powertrain to the Harrier and the Safari range, with a launch scheduled for tomorrow. The brand will introduce the 1.5-litre turbo-petrol Hyperion engine in the SUV duo, an engine that recently made its debut with the Sierra SUV.
This turbo-petrol motor produces 165bhp and 280Nm of peak torque, and is paired with a six-speed manual or an automatic torque converter unit. At present, the Harrier and the Safari are sold only with a 2.0-litre diesel engine, tuned to deliver 168bhp and 350Nm, with both manual and automatic gearboxes on offer.
With this launch, Tata will finally fill the gap that its key rival – the Mahindra XUV700 – has long capitalised. Many enthusiasts have been asking for a petrol-powered Harrier, and the brand has now responded.
