The year gone by marked a shift in India’s passenger vehicle market, with Mahindra securing the second place. Maruti Suzuki retained its lead, while Hyundai and Tata Motors slipped in the rankings amid rising competition across key segments. Overall sales remained strong, led largely by SUVs.
Given below is the manufacturer-wise breakdown.

Maruti Suzuki continued to lead the market in 2025, selling 17.86 lakh units and accounting for nearly 40 percent of total passenger vehicle sales. While volumes rose year-on-year (YoY), its market share dipped. The Dzire emerged as the bestselling car of 2025, while the Wagon R, Ertiga, Swift, Fronx and Brezza also featured among the year’s top-selling models, supporting Maruti’s overall volumes.
Mahindra moved up to second place, selling 5.93 lakh units and raising its market share to 13.25 percent in 2025. The growth was driven by strong demand across its SUV portfolio, led by the Scorpio, Thar, XUV700, XUV3XO and Bolero, with newer models adding incremental volumes. The addition of the BE 6 and XEV 9e also contributed, with EVs accounting for around 7 percent of Mahindra’s total sales.
Tata Motors ranked third with 5.68 lakh units sold, though its market share slipped to 12.68 percent amid rising competition. The Nexon, which was the third bestselling car of the year, and the Punch continued to anchor volumes. Tata also expanded its SUV range with the launch of the Sierra, which marked its entry into the midsize SUV segment and is its most significant launch in several years.
Hyundai slipped from second place in 2024 to fourth in 2025, with sales of 5.60 lakh units and a 12.5 percent market share. The Creta remained the bestselling SUV and the second bestselling car overall, but slower growth across the rest of the line-up led to a lower ranking.
Toyota sold 3.21 lakh units, lifting its market share to 7.17 percent, with consistent demand for the Innova Crysta and Hycross. Maruti rebadged models, including the Urban Cruiser Taisor, Glanza and Urban Cruiser Hyryder, helped support growth.
With 2.59 lakh units in 2025, Kia’s market share crept up to 5.79 percent. Sales were led by the Seltos and Sonet. During the year, Kia expanded its line-up with the launch of the Syros, the Carens Clavis and a facelift for the EV6.
The Skoda Volkswagen Group crossed the 1 lakh annual sales milestone in 2025 with 1.08 lakh units and improved its market share to 2.42 percent. Volumes were driven by the Kylaq sub-4-metre SUV; the Slavia, Virtus, Taigun and Kushaq also added to the numbers. The group also launched the Golf GTI and Octavia RS in limited imported numbers, both of which sold out.
JSW MG Motor sold 65,614 units, increasing its market share to 1.47 percent. MG’s cumulative EV sales in India crossed the one-lakh-unit milestone, led by the Windsor EV. The Hector also received a facelift during the year.
Honda sold 62,576 units in 2025, and its market share slipped to 1.40 percent. The brand’s line-up comprises Elevate, City and Amaze. There were no major updates or new launches from Honda during the year.
Renault rounded out the top ten with 36,420 units sold in 2025, accounting for a 0.81 percent market share. The line-up included the Kwid, Kiger and Triber, with the last two receiving facelifts during the year.
